Set up USPTO Research Bundle (Patent Search + MPEP RAG + Hypergraph)

Connect this product to claude.ai in two steps. You will need the connector URL(s) below and the same Google or Microsoft account you used to sign in on this site.

Step 1: Add the connector in claude.ai

In claude.ai, open Settings, choose Connectors, and select Add custom connector. Paste the connector URL exactly as shown. Give each connector the name shown here. The "Legal MCPs" prefix marks these as our connectors, not the USPTO's or the SEC's, and keeps them together in your list.

Name to use in claude.aiConnector URL
Legal MCPs - USPTO Patent Search https://uspto-patent-search.legal-mcps.ai/mcp
Legal MCPs - USPTO MPEP RAG https://uspto-mpep-rag.legal-mcps.ai/mcp
Legal MCPs - USPTO MPEP Hypergraph https://uspto-mpep-hypergraph.legal-mcps.ai/mcp

In claude.ai the connector is added from Settings. The screens below are from a real run; the connector shown is EDGAR Intelligence, and the USPTO connectors are added the same way, one per address listed above.

  1. The claude.ai account menu with Settings at the top
Open the account menu and choose Settings.
  2. The Connectors page in Settings, with the Add menu open on Add custom connector
Under Customize, open Connectors, click Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. The Add custom connector dialog with the name Legal MCPs - EDGAR Intelligence and the connector address filled in
Give it a name and paste the connector address, then Continue.
  4. The dialog's Authentication section with Sign in now detected and OAuth client set to Register automatically
Leave the detected defaults: Sign in now, and Register automatically.
  5. The bottom of the dialog with the Add button
No request headers are needed. Click Add.
  6. The new connector's page saying you are not connected yet, with a Connect button
The connector is listed but not yet connected (the wording varies). Click Connect to sign in.
  7. The legal-mcps.ai sign-in page with Continue with Google and Continue with Microsoft buttons
Connect opens the legal-mcps.ai sign-in page. Continue with the Google or Microsoft account you use on this site; Step 2 follows.

Step 2: Authenticate with Google or Microsoft

When claude.ai prompts you to authorize the connector, sign in with Google or Microsoft using the same email address as this account. Access is matched by email, so a different email (even a different identity at the same provider) will not see this account's access.

You will see two pages from legal-mcps.ai before the connector is live. On the first you accept the Terms of Service for the account you signed in with; on the second you allow Claude to call the connector on your behalf. The signed-in address and the exact MCP endpoint are specific to your account and the product you are connecting.

The Before you connect page: accept the Terms of Service for the signed-in account
First page: accept the Terms of Service.
The Allow Claude to connect page, showing the signed-in address, the MCP endpoint and the Allow button
Second page: click Allow. The note that the application registered itself is expected; continue only if you started the connection from claude.ai.

Tip: If authentication reports an expired sign-in, start over from a fresh claude.ai page or a brand-new chat. The "Sign-in expired" message usually means the flow was resumed from a stale tab.

Using ChatGPT instead

The same connectors work in ChatGPT as custom MCP servers (a paid ChatGPT plan with developer mode or connector access is needed; OpenAI controls which plans have it). The name, URL and the sign-in are the same as above; only the dialogs differ.

  1. ChatGPT's Add custom MCP server dialog with the name, the server URL and OAuth authentication
In ChatGPT settings, add a custom MCP server: the same name and URL, Authentication set to OAuth, nothing in the advanced settings.
  2. The I understand and want to continue checkbox and the Create as a plugin button
Tick "I understand and want to continue", then Create.
  3. ChatGPT's connect sheet for Legal MCPs - EDGAR Intelligence with a Continue button
ChatGPT's own connect sheet: click Continue.
  4. The legal-mcps.ai sign-in page with Continue with Google and Continue with Microsoft buttons
Unless you are already signed in on this site, the sign-in page comes next: Continue with the Google or Microsoft account you use here.
  5. The Allow ChatGPT to connect page on legal-mcps.ai with the Allow button
Then Allow. The return address shown is ChatGPT's.
  6. ChatGPT's tools menu listing Legal MCPs - EDGAR Intelligence
The connector appears in the tools menu of a new chat.
  7. A ChatGPT prompt with the connector selected
Pick it and ask your question.
